[Japanese People read a magazine from back to front??]
Do you know the way Japanese people read a magazine in Japan?
If you are not Japanese, you may think we are reading the magazine back to front.
That's right.
Unlike English magazine, all the Japanese magazines are open from left
to right like the picture avobe.
It's like we read Japanese kanji, hiragana and Kataknaa characters from right to left vertically, but we read Japanese symbols from left to right horizontally.
It is bit complex, isn't it?

You know, Japanese people use 3 different scripts to write a word or name
in Japanese
They are:
1. KANJI
2. Katakana
3. Hiragana
Now, let me explain about the 1st script called "Kanji".
Japanese Script[1]: KANJI
===========================
Among these 3 scripts, Kanji script is the most popular writing form for
Western people, as they are mostly used in the LAST SAMURAI movie, and
the look of Kanji is very artistic and expressive comparing to other 2 scripts.
Kanji are basically 'Ideograms'.
Kanji convey a specific meaning, word or idea.
There are kanji symbols to represent all aspects of language including concepts,
feelings and ideas, too.
Historically, it was invented by the Chinese and introduced to Japan.
Although the Chinese character and Japanese Kanji character look very similar,
they are not exactlty the same.
What they look like?
Take a look at the example of Kanji symbols I have created on the web:
http://www.dsfy.com/UnitedStaes_Kanji.htm
This is the Kanji symbols that says "United States" in Japanese.
These are Kanji compounds.
By using 2 different Kanji symbols, it makes the meaning.
The first Kanji character is "Rice", and the second character is "Country".
So, 'rice country' is the Japanese KANJI word for America.
Moreoever, extensive kanji dictionaries can contain as many
as 40 - 50,000 kanji!!
Because there are couple ways to write a same word in KANJI.
For instance, I can write 'Faith' with 4 ~ 5 different ways.
How do I know which one to use?
It usually depends on what you really want to say.
The kanji character for 'Faith' as in Believe is VERY DIFFERENT to 'Faith'
as in promise.
